Takoyaki - Tako means Octopus, and yaki means fried. Combining these two words together means fried octopus balls. A snack popularized from Osaka, but nowadays found in almost every corner of Japan.
Gindaco is a popular brand of Takoyaki chain stalls all over Japan. Established in 1997 and having their first stall at Nakano Sun Mall in 1998, Gindaco has more than 300 stalls in Japan, with franchises also in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Taiwan, Thailand and Singapore.
I didn't realise that the stall I always visit in Nakano is the first ever Gindaco stall! I must have eaten at this stall for 3 - 4 times, as Nakano is one of my favourite places in Tokyo, with Nakano Broadway, together with some cool Izakayas and cheap accommodations all located there.
Their Spring limited menu - Spring Takoyaki - topped with mayonnaise and tomato cream. Other standard menu include toppings such as teriyaki egg mayonnaise, cheese mentaiko, negi or the normal Takoyaki.
We ordered the normal Takoyaki (JPY500). There are 8 takoyaki per serving, and only when you order will the staff then scoop them up from the pan. This is to keep them warm, unlike those which you buy in Singapore, which has already been scooped up and usually cold when you eat them.
Piping hot takoyaki - still oozy in the middle, but crispy outside. Look at the big piece of octopus in each ball. Super yummy!
