Tsukiji Sushi Sen (築地すし鮮)

When in Tsukiji, how can one miss out trying out any of the sushi or kaisen don restaurants.

Not wanting to join the super long queues at the morning seafood restaurant street, we settled for sushi sen (すし鮮) which we were attracted by the lunch sets.

The prices are cheap! at only JPY1000 - JPY1500 for a lunch set, and it even includes miso soup and chawanmushi!

Besides the lunch sets, you can also order other sets or ala carte sushi from the menu.

We were given a counter seat, as the restaurant was filled with an American soccer group and the big sized players were ordering loads of extravagant food like lobsters and sashimi.

A counter seat is also not bad! You get to see the sushi master at work, preparing all the sushi customers ordered.

We ordered the lunch nigiri set 1.5 portion. 11 pieces of nigiri sushi and 6 makis at only JPY1365 (approx SGD19)

I ordered sushi from the ala carte menu as I wanted to eat something different from the standard lunch sets. And even though I did not order a lunch set, I was also given complimentary miso soup and chawanmushi. As expected, this is what they call the Japanese hospitality.

No regrets in dining at Sushi sen. You can get fresh and very affordable seafood, without having to queue for a long time.

Besides 2 outlets at Tsukiji, they have a total of 15 restaurants all over Japan.

Ganso Sushi 元祖寿司

My favourite revolving sushi chain - Ganso Sushi (元祖寿司) also has an outlet at Nakano Sun Mall. How could I miss the opportunity to drop by for a few plates of sushi on my way to Nakano Broadway.

The special offers of the week would be displayed all at the entrance glass panels. Sure to attract customers to enter the shop.

Uni - my favourite! and super cheap as well!

The shop is actually very small, with almost no walking space. And at 5pm, there were surprisingly quite alot of people in the shop.

Hmm what sushi should I eat first? This hamachi (yellowtail) looks tempting...

This is good stuff! Look at the thickness of the fish. I especially like the "red portion" of the hamachi.

Hotate (scallops) looks delicious as well...

So is the ika geso (squid tentacles)

Negitoro (minced tuna). And 3 pieces in a plate! Great for negitoro lovers like me.

Look at the size of the Anago sushi!

Aji (horse mackerel) - very common sushi in Japan, but not widely found in Singapore.

Saba (mackerel) - it is sliced very thinly in Singapore, but look at the size of this one!

The maguro akami vs toro.. what a great difference in the fish quality... so is the price!

Half and half - a new item in Ganso Sushi, gives you the option to try more sushi, not having to eat double portions of the same item. I got the salmon and scallop as it was rolling out the conveyor belt.

More salmon for me as 1 piece wasn't enough.

Everybody's ordering Uni - let me get one too! ok ok the presentation is not as nice, but hey it's only 168 yen a plate, what can you expect. already super cheap.

This is what they call salmon harasu (or fatty Salmon belly). Look at the gleaming fats from the fish. I've got my collagen supplement for the day!

Ebi (prawn) sushi. I prefer the raw ebi to the cooked ones as they are more crunchy to the bite.

Last order I must have when I visit Ganso Sushi is the Tsubugai mayo. This is also one of the reason why my favourite revolving sushi shop is Ganso Sushi. Many customers may order Tsubugai sushi, which is actually Whelk, but their version with mayonnaise is really delicious.

Ganso revolving sushi may not serve delicate or high quality sushi, but it wins on freshness, big portions and definitely super cheap! Prices start from JPY105 per plate. Even when I had 9 plates, with some at JPY126, total bill only cost me slightly above JPY1000, which is really super value for money.

Tsukiji Tama sushi - all you can eat 築地玉寿司-食べ放題

Being a big fan of sushi and searching for a good all-you-can-eat sushi place, I came across Tsukiji Tama sushi's website, where it has one of the cheaper, no time limit all-you-can-eat sushi.

Most of the all-you-can-eat sushi restaurants in Tokyo either have a time limit of 90 minutes, or can cost up to 5000yen per person. Tama sushi is definitely worth for money, at 3150yen for ladies, 4200yen for guys with no time limit.

I went with a friend to the Shinjuku Takashimaya branch for dinner. When we arrived at about 530pm, there was already a queue outside the restaurant, so we took a queue number and it was indicated that we had to wait around 45 minutes. Luckily we had went there earlier, anticipating that there would be a long queue, otherwise, you may have to wait for more than an hour to get a seat there.

First order was the recommended sushi of the day - smoked duck maki. The portions were quite large.

Next we went with the lighter fishes and seafood first: Amaebi, saba, hokkigai, awabi and aji.

After the light fishes, I could wait no more! need my uni and ikura fix. Also ordered kani salad and another seafood salad.

Time to order more sushi - who can forget everybody's favourite salmon, maguro, anago, kohada, shako & kazunoko. All sushi orders had to be in pairs, you can't order a single one.
