Streets of Mongkok, Hong Kong

Mongkok must be one of the must visit places whenever anybody visits Hong Kong. Home to popular streets like Ladies Street, Temple Street, Fa Yuen Street , Portland Street, it is a shopper and foodie's paradise.

We planned to have dim sum at the ever so popular Michelin-starred Tim Ho Wan in the morning. When we arrived at about 11 in the morning, as usual there was a crowd waiting outside.

After wondering around outside the restaurant, we realised that the number tags have already all been given out. Apparently they only distribute 130 tags in the morning, and within less than 1 hour, all number tags have already been distributed!

No luck in having Michelin dim sum, so we settled for another popular dim sum chain Tao Heung.

On the way to Tao Heung, we passed by a street market, which is a typical scene in Hong Kong.

Very fresh and cheap vegetables are sold.

These traditional bakeries can also be found in various places in Hong Kong. I love their piping hot pastries just out of the oven.

Roasted meats is also another Hong Kong famous specialty.

Just look at the juicy Char Siew on display. I remember there was a Hong Kong ghost movie whereby the ghost was licking on the char siew. Now I know why... it is simply too tempting.

Fa Yuen Street 花園街 is a good place to visit for cheap casual wear and stuff. Different from Ladies Street where many tourist visit, Fa Yuen street is also frequented by locals, as such the prices are lower and mainly fixed, so do not expect that the owners will reduce too much of the price.

Thirsty after much walking, we caught sight of Sea View Congee Shop (海景粥店) and ordered a hot soyabean milk. Sea View Congee Shop is just like Ocean Empire Food Shop where they sell mainly soyabean milk, fried you tiao, congee and noodles.

Kee Tsui Cake shop (奇趣餅家) is another popular Traditional Hong Kong pastry shop located at Fa Yuen Street.

Wife biscuit (老婆餅)and century egg lotus pastry(皮蛋酥). They still taste best piping hot out of the oven.
